Obi Cubana’s wife fires back at social media critics over ‘next of kin’ comments

Date:

Ebele Iyiegbu, wife of Nigerian billionaire businessman and nightlife mogul, Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has taken to Instagram to issue a response to social media users who have speculated about the succession plans within their family, especially concerning who among their children or adopted son should be named “next of kin.”

In her latest Instagram post seen by Breakingng.com, Ebele expressed dismay over what she described as “unfounded and misdirected” online chatter. She criticized the increasing tendency of social media users to insert themselves into deeply personal family matters without any real knowledge of the individuals involved.

Reacting to the controversy, an On-Air Personality (OAP) Radiogad asked why would the billionaire businessman adopt the boy if he didn’t love him that much?.

“Only on social media do you encounter people sharing your life story as if they know you personally. Only here will you learn about your own history from strangers who’ve never even met you,” she wrote.

Ebele, a lawyer and humanitarian, did not mince words in addressing those who she believes are projecting their personal bitterness and biases onto her role as a wife and mother.

“And only on social media will you see people blaming wives and mothers because of their own misguided thoughts and evil ideas… because that’s who they are,” she added, making it clear that she would not be drawn into what she perceives as divisive and unnecessary debates.

The mother of four appeared to be responding to recent online commentary regarding the Iyiegbu family’s future, particularly about inheritance and succession.

While some social media users have speculated on who should be Obi Cubana’s next of kin—whether it should be one of their biological children or a young boy the family is said to have adopted—Ebele’s message made it clear that such matters are private and not up for public debate.

Shifting focus from the critics, Ebele took the opportunity to continue the celebration of her husband’s landmark 50th birthday, which was recently marked with a glamorous #50for50 party attended by celebrities, business magnates, and dignitaries. “Anyways, I’m still soaking in the celebration of the #50for50 birthday party for Okpataozueora! Like I said before, the entire month of April is dedicated to you, babe,” she wrote with affection.

She also thanked the media team for documenting the event, revealing that she had personally crafted a unique tribute to her husband. “Big thanks to @tsl_thrusamslens for capturing part of my speech. I curated 50 Igbo titles that describe the personality of @obi_cubana—it wasn’t easy,” she shared.

Obi Cubana, known for his larger-than-life personality and deep cultural roots, has often been praised for his generosity and philanthropy, especially in uplifting young people and supporting his community.

With her post, Ebele Iyiegbu not only silenced critics but also reminded the public of the importance of boundaries and respect, even in an era dominated by social media speculation.

As the month-long celebration of the business mogul’s golden jubilee continues, the Iyiegbu family appears unshaken and united—unbothered by the noise, and focused on what truly matters to them.
