Persistent power outage sparks outrage in Yaba

Date:

Days-long power outage in Yaba, Lagos, has sparked frustration among residents, with comedian and Kannywood actor, Funky Mallam, speaking out about the issue.

Funky Mallam took to his Instagram page to lament the severe impact of the power outage, including food spoilage and heat discomfort.

According to Funky Mallam, the Alagomeji area of Yaba has been without electricity for several days, with no clear explanation for the issue.

Despite paying increased tariffs, residents are experiencing inconsistent power supply, which is affecting businesses and daily life.

He said “I’m talking to you now in my area, Alagomeji, Yaba. We haven’t had light for so many days now, and nobody knows what the problem is, although we’ve been having this problem off and on.

“I think if we are lucky, we will have light for three or four days straight, after that, we go back to square one, and then we start suffering the heat at the same time.

“Who is check-mating the activities of these guys? Because we were asked to pay more and more. They’ve been increasing the tariff and we’ve been paying. But it has never been constant.

“We can’t even buy things that can be stored in the fridge because they will get spoiled. We buy things to finish them that day, so you can’t save money. This is because we have a bunch of incompetent people who cannot deliver.”

He is urging the relevant authorities to investigate the situation urgently and improve the power supply. He believes that the electricity distribution company is incompetent and unable to deliver a stable power supply.

The power outage in Yaba is just one of many issues Nigerians face with their electricity supply. The Minister of Power has recently apologized for nationwide power outages, citing technical problems and gas constraints affecting power plants.
