5 feared dead as tanker explodes in Delta

A fuel tanker explosion struck Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area in Delta State, killing at least five persons and destroying multiple properties, including two banks.

The unfortunate occurrence occurred on Sunday afternoon along Old Asaba-Lagos Road, leaving a trail of damage and injuries, as well as millions of dollars in property destroyed to the fire.

According to sources, the explosion occurred when a fuel truck toppled while making a turn near First Bank in Agbor.

“We were told that the petrol tanker fell by the First Bank in Agbor when the driver tried to make a turn at the old Lagos/Asaba road,” an eyewitness recounted.

He described the scene as chaotic and tragic. “As I ran to the scene to find out, it was devastating. Five people have been confirmed dead while property, including two banks, were still burning.”

The witness further lamented the absence of emergency response teams. “We are yet to see firefighters at the scene, the fire is still burning as I speak to you now.”
