The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been thrown into a new leadership crisis following a dramatic declaration by Nafiu Bala, a former Gombe State governorship candidate and the party’s current National Deputy Chairman, who has named himself the Interim National Chairman.

Bala made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, citing constitutional backing and a need to salvage the party from what he termed “internal collapse” and “external manipulation.”
His move directly challenges the authority of former Senate President David Mark, who was previously appointed Interim National Chairman after the ADC was adopted as the platform for an opposition coalition.
In a scathing address, Bala accused former party leaders of betraying the ADC by ceding control to individuals with no historical or political affiliation with the party. He labeled their actions as “political hooliganism” and “a disgraceful abdication of responsibility.”
“The ADC is being hijacked.
“Some individuals, entrusted with leadership, have surrendered our party’s future to strangers. This is unacceptable, and we will resist it with every legal means.
“In accordance with the ADC constitution, and as the duly elected National Deputy Chairman, I am stepping into my rightful role as Interim National Chairman
“We will not allow impunity to thrive.”
