APC tells el-Rufai to “find a job”, wait for 2027

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, urging him to cease his political campaigns and “find a job” until the 2027 election cycle officially begins.

This admonition comes after El-Rufai, now a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), publicly warned Nigerians against voting for the APC again, claiming the country couldn’t survive another four years under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking to Tribune Online in a telephone interview, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru reacted to El-Rufai’s comments, which were made on Saturday in Sokoto State during an ADC grassroots mobilization event.

Basiru questioned El-Rufai’s urgency, noting that the guidelines for the 2027 general elections wouldn’t be unveiled until February 2026.

“Why is he in a hurry?” Basiru asked. “2027 is far. El-Rufai should go and find a job to do. He can go back to school to enrich his knowledge, or play with his grandchildren.”

Basiru accused the former governor of trying to distract the ruling party. “We are too busy fixing our party, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is busy with governance. He should not distract us,” he said.

During his address, El-Rufai had expressed his concerns about the nation’s future under the APC. “If we allow APC to continue, the little that remains of our national cohesion may be destroyed,” he stated, adding that the upcoming election is “the fight of our lives.”

He emphasized that his return to the political fray was a patriotic duty. “When leadership fails the people, it becomes the duty of every patriotic citizen to stand up and act. That’s what I’m doing and I will not stop,” El-Rufai said.
