Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai adopt ADC as official platform for opposition coalition

Date:

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have reportedly endorsed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the official platform for a newly formed opposition coalition.

According to an exclusive report by DAILY POST, the decision was reached during a high-level meeting held Tuesday night, where the trio and their allies finalized plans to present a united front ahead of future political contests.

A source privy to the meeting, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development, stating, “The coalition is now a reality. The ADC has been adopted as the common political vehicle for the opposition bloc.”

The move is seen as a strategic effort to consolidate opposition forces in preparation for the 2027 general elections, potentially reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.

The source said: “They have adopted the African Democratic Party as the coalition party, all of them (Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai) are working together.

“They came to the conclusion at a meeting last night, which lasted up till the early hours of this morning. You know politicians meet when we are asleep.

“All the leaders and stakeholders of the coalition were there, they set up committees to dot the Is and cross the Ts while preparing the way for the eventual public unveiling of the coalition.

“But effectively, as we speak, the coalition has been born, the conclusion meeting took place.”

On the date for the official unveiling, the source said: “There is none for now, but it will be sooner than later, very soon.”
