The body of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari has departed the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina, commencing its final journey to his hometown of Daura, where he will be laid to rest according to Islamic rites.

Following a solemn military farewell ceremony at the airport, attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, and a host of other dignitaries, the late leader’s remains were transferred from the Nigerian Air Force aircraft to a waiting motorcade.
The procession is now en route to Daura, where security has been significantly tightened and a mood of deep mourning has enveloped the community.
Islamic funeral prayers (Jana’iza) are expected to take place upon arrival, followed by interment at his private residence.
