Dino Melaye resigns from PDP, joins ADC

Date:

Former lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s “inability to rescue Nigeria from prevailing political cankerworms.”

Melaye, who previously represented Kogi West in the Senate, shared his signed resignation letter on his official X handle, on Thursday, July 31.

The letter, addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, is dated July 4, 2025.

In the letter, Melaye stated that his decision became “imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”

The PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate for Kogi State indicated that after careful consideration of the party’s current state, he could no longer, in good conscience, take part in its activities or endorse its agenda.

“In view of the above, please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect,” the letter concluded.

In a follow up video, Melaye was seen receiving the membership card of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Melaye had before now been seen aligning with the Atiku Abubakar-led opposition coalition
