FG declares Dec 25, 26, Jan 1 public holiday

Date:

The federal government has officially designated December 25-26 and January 1, 2025, as public holidays, celebrating Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, respectively.

In a statement signed by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo shared this announcement, extending festive greetings to Nigerians.

He encouraged citizens to embrace this holiday season as a time for reflection on the core values of love, peace, and unity that the season embodies.

Tunji-Ojo emphasised that the yuletide is an ideal opportunity to foster harmony and strengthen relationships within families and communities.

He also noted that Christmas, a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ—the Prince of Peace—offers a chance for both spiritual renewal and national reflection.

“Let us show kindness and goodwill to one another, transcending our differences,” the statement read.

The minister further urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their commitment to the nation’s peace, unity, and progress.

He reassured the public of the federal government’s unwavering dedication to ensuring safety, security, and prosperity throughout the country.

Tunji-Ojo also highlighted that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, under President Bola Tinubu, is set to usher in a thriving economy that will position Nigeria as a global leader.
