FG declares May 1 public holiday

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued Tuesday night by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerian workers for their dedication, resilience, and contributions to national development, emphasizing that their hard work remains a cornerstone of the country’s strength and international reputation.

“There is dignity in labour. The commitment and perseverance of Nigerian workers are vital to our collective progress,” the minister said.

He encouraged workers across the country to embrace innovation, enhance productivity, and continue raising professional standards to improve governance and ensure the country’s resources benefit all citizens.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to safety and welfare, Tunji-Ojo assured that the Tinubu administration is working to ensure the security of lives and property for both citizens and foreigners.

As the nation prepares to celebrate its workforce, the minister called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and united, reiterating the administration’s pledge to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He wished all workers a peaceful and fulfilling celebration.
