Four senators elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), further strengthening the APC’s majority in the 10th Senate.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read their defection letters during Wednesday’s plenary session, where the lawmakers cited internal crises and irreconcilable differences within the PDP as the reason for their departure.
The defectors include Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Oluwole Olubiyi (Osun Central), Aniekan Bassey (Akwa Ibom North East), and Samson Ekong (Akwa Ibom South).

Following their exit, the current composition of the Senate shifts to APC – 70 seats, PDP – 28, Labour Party – 5, SDP – 2, NNPP – 1, and APGA – 1.
Senate President Akpabio directed the Clerk of the Senate to formally document the defections.
In a show of support, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, former Labour Minister Chris Ngige, and several members of the House of Representatives were present in the Senate chamber to witness the occasion.
