Full list of African countries affected by Trump’s tariffs

Date:

US President Donald Trump, on Wednesday, announced his much-anticipated “red hot” tariffs on trading partners.

These tariffs are expected to boost America’s manufacturing and punish other nations for what Trump claims are years of unfair trade practices.

Trump announced a 10% baseline tariff on all imports into the U.S. from all countries. However, countries with trade surpluses with the U.S. will have higher rates.

Some of the highest rates will be levied on smaller countries, with goods from Lesotho facing 50%.

The European Union is facing 20% tariffs, while China is looking at 34%.

Here are all the African countries on Trump’s preliminary list:

Botswana – 37%

South Africa – 30%

Tunisia – 28%

Côte d’Ivoire – 21%

Egypt – 10%

Morocco – 10%

Although Nigeria and other African countries are not on Trump’s supplementary list, the 10% baseline tariff on imports from all countries still affects them.

In 2022, Nigeria was the second-largest U.S. export destination in Sub-Saharan Africa.
