How we arrested Bobrisky – Immigration

Date:

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced on Monday that it has detained prominent social media personality, Okuneye Idris, better known as Bobrisky, at the Seme border while attempting to leave the country.

The arrest comes amid ongoing controversies surrounding Bobrisky, including allegations of bribery and recent claims against prominent figures.

Bobrisky has been a subject of public scrutiny since April 2024 when he was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse. Although he was officially incarcerated, reports suggested that he was released early under mysterious circumstances, sparking allegations of preferential treatment and bribery.

The controversy intensified in September 2024 when a leaked audio recording surfaced, purportedly featuring Bobrisky claiming that music artist Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, had approached him for a bribe to secure a presidential pardon. Both Falz and Falana vehemently denied these allegations and issued a cease-and-desist letter demanding a retraction and apology.

The NIS statement did not provide further details about the reasons for Bobrisky’s detention or the specific charges he faces.

“He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.

“The Service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the country’s borders.”
