JUST IN: Appeal court upholds Oba Olaoye as Soun of Ogbomoso

Date:

The Court of Appeal in Ibadan has ruled in favor of Oba Ghandi Olaoye, affirming his position as the legitimate Soun of Ogbomoso.

The court’s decision on Tuesday overturned an earlier ruling by the Oyo State High Court, which had nullified his selection.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Yargata Nimpar, who led a three-member panel, the appellate court upheld Oba Olaoye’s appointment on all 10 grounds of appeal.

This decision effectively reinstates him as the rightful monarch of Ogbomoso.

The controversy began when Justice K.A. Adedokun of the Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso declared on October 25, 2023, that Oba Olaoye’s selection process was “irregular, null, and void,” citing non-compliance with the 1958 Soun Chieftaincy Declaration.

However, the Court of Appeal set aside the lower court’s ruling, affirming that Oba Olaoye’s installation as Soun of Ogbomoso was valid and legally sound.

This judgment has been hailed as a significant victory for Oba Olaoye and the people of Ogbomoso.
