JUST IN: Court directs Osun to proceed with LG elections

The Osun State High Court in Ilesa has directed the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to proceed with elections for the vacant positions of local government chairmen and councillors across all 30 local government areas and the area office in the state.

The ruling, delivered on Friday, February 21, 2025, followed a legal challenge filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of the political parties involved in the upcoming election.

The Osun State Governor had insisted that the local government election scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, February 22, will hold unfailingly under the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).

Recall that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, had on Thursday urged Adeleke not to proceed with the election.

Fagbemi called on Adeleke to honour the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Akure, which reinstated the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen and councillors who were dismissed by the Federal High Court in Osogbo in 2022.
