JUST IN: Tinubu lands in Japan for official visit

Date:

President Bola Tinubu on Monday arrived in Tokyo, Japan, at 1 am local time, embarking on a landmark diplomatic mission aimed at deepening Nigeria-Japan relations.

The visit seeks to enhance cooperation in key sectors, including trade, technology, infrastructure development, and education.

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had earlier said in a statement, President Tinubu’s agenda in Japan includes high-level meetings with Japanese government officials, business leaders, and representatives of technology firms.

“This official visit underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s international partnerships and attracting foreign investment that will drive Nigeria’s economic transformation,” Onanuga said.

The statement highlighted that the President intends to discuss opportunities for collaboration on infrastructure projects, renewable energy initiatives, and skills development programmes to benefit Nigerian youths.

He is also expected to engage in talks about boosting trade relations and securing technology transfers that can support Nigeria’s industrialisation goals.

President Tinubu’s visit follows growing interest from Japanese companies in Africa’s largest economy and is poised to reinforce Nigeria’s position as a key economic player on the continent. Further updates will be provided as the official visit progresses.
