A pilgrim from Kano State, Shu’aibu Jibrin, has died in Makkah barely 24 hours before the commencement of the 2025 Hajj rites.
The tragic development was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Malam Suleiman Dederi, who disclosed that Jibrin passed away on Tuesday following a sudden illness.
A relative of the deceased, Sama’uddin Aliyu Kadawa, who is also in Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage, corroborated the news while speaking with journalists in Makkah.
The board is expected to liaise with Saudi authorities to complete necessary procedures in accordance with Islamic burial rites.

“He was okay when he left home. After he became ill, he was admitted to King Abdulazeez Hospital for two days and was discharged after his health improved.
“Unfortunately, his condition worsened again yesterday, and he was rushed back to the hospital. Despite the efforts of our Nigerian doctors and the medical team at the hospital, he passed away around 2:50 a.m.,” he added.
Aliyu revealed that his late brother, Shu’aibu Jibrin, was a farmer from Gargai in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State. He added that Jibrin had a medical history of ulcer and hypertension. However, doctors at the hospital in Saudi Arabia confirmed that the cause of death was cardiac arrest resulting from heart failure.
