Meranda stepped down as Speaker during peace meeting – Obasa claims

Date:

Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has asserted that Mojisola Meranda stepped down from her position as Speaker during a peace meeting.

Obasa made this claim during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, on Thursday.

According to him, Meranda voluntarily resigned at a reconciliation meeting held last weekend at the Lagos House in Marina.

“At the meeting in Marina, which was attended by all party leaders, Meranda clearly stated her resignation. She made it known that she was stepping down,” Obasa said.

He further argued that once someone resigns, they forfeit the privileges of the office. “The question is: Has she truly resigned? Part of the arrangement was for her to step down. Let them produce the resignation letter. If I had resigned, would I still be here? I’m sure you’d still refer to me as Speaker, even though we’ve never spoken before,” he added.
