Police, Amotekun take over CBEX office in Oyo amid investor uproar

Date:

Security operatives from the Nigeria Police and the Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly known as Operation Amotekun, on Tuesday took control of the CBEX office located in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Their presence followed a chaotic incident on Monday evening when a group of disgruntled customers stormed the office after reports emerged that the online investment platform had crashed, allegedly resulting in the loss of millions of naira.

According to findings by our correspondent, news of the platform’s collapse surfaced earlier on Monday, sparking outrage among investors. In the ensuing chaos, some individuals reportedly looted valuables from the office.

It was also gathered that numerous residents of Ibadan had collectively invested significant sums in the scheme, intensifying the outrage after the crash.

When our correspondent visited the area on Tuesday, patrol vehicles from both the police and Amotekun were visibly stationed around the premises, maintaining a heavy security presence.

An eyewitness at the scene said, “The platform went down yesterday, and that’s why many of the investors rushed here, angry and frustrated. Now, security agents are here to keep things under control and stop any further trouble.”

Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for comments were unsuccessful as of press time. Security personnel remained on the ground to forestall any potential unrest.
