The Anambra State Police Command arrested nine individuals in connection with the murder of Justice Azuka, a member of the state House of Assembly representing Onitsha North 1.
The arrest came 24 hours after Azuka’s decomposing body was discovered by the roadside near the second Niger Bridge in Inland Town, Onitsha, following his kidnapping on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa road.
Nnaghe Itam, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, revealed the arrest on Friday, stating that Azuka’s body was discovered by a combined security team during their effort to rescue the legislator.
Itam shared that on the day his corpse was found, the command’s men in a joint operation with Anambra State Vigilante operatives acting on intelligence-led information apprehended nine suspects allegedly actively involved in the incident.
He added that two pump action guns were recovered from the suspects and that one of them was injured in the leg during a gun duel with the policemen.
Those arrested are Ugochukwu Onuorah (30), Ikemefuna Ossai (20), Ikenna Orugu (27), Chibuike Obiefuna (19), Chinonso Olisa (19) Chinedu Okoli (21), David Ojini (25) and Peter Sunday (20).
