There is no democracy in Nigeria, says Secondus

Date:

A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Uche Secondus, has declared that there is no democracy in Nigeria.

This was as Secondus said Nigeria is moving towards liquidation under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He spoke during the public presentation of two books by veteran journalist, Ike Abonyi in Abuja yesterday.

Secondus added that Nigeria’s democratic structure is dysfunctional, with political parties lacking ideological coherence and institutional continuity.

He said: “We are still far from getting to a point where we can say we have democracy.

“We don’t have democracy in our country. What we have is a platform for winning an election.

“Our country is gradually moving in the wrong direction to a place where you can say Nigeria is on the verge of liquidation presided over by Tinubu.”

This comes amid claims that Nigeria was drifting towards a one-party state, hence the formation of an opposition coalition by some imminent politicians.

The coalition had adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in June as its official platform.

The party’s activities, which are being promoted by members of the coalition, is beginning to gain momentum in states.

The coalition is positioning itself as the platform to defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Currently, there are some top politicians likely to jostle for the ADC’s presidential ticket.

They include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi.

However, Atiku’s spokesman, Paul Ibe disclosed that delegates of the party would decide ADC’s presidential flag bearer.
