President Bola Tinubu has instructed ministers and heads of federal government agencies to limit their convoys to no more than three vehicles.
According to a statement released on Thursday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the directive is aimed at reducing the cost of governance.
In January, President Tinubu had already made significant efforts to reduce government spending by cutting down the number of officials on his foreign trips from 50 to 20, and to 25 for local trips. The Vice President’s entourage was also reduced to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local ones.
The directive issued today also mandates that ministers and heads of agencies may have no more than five security personnel. The security team will consist of four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS).
The President emphasized, “No additional security personnel will be assigned.”
Additionally, President Tinubu instructed the National Security Adviser (NSA) to collaborate with the military, paramilitary, and other security agencies to determine appropriate reductions in vehicle and security personnel deployments.
“All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, highlighting the urgency and seriousness of the reforms,” the statement added.
