A fight broke out between two students at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, leading to the release of a poisonous gas that sent 10 students to the hospital.
The students, from the Science Laboratory and Technology Department, were in their lecture hall after a course test when the altercation occurred.
Witnesses claim that, in a bid to restore calm, one of the students sprayed an unknown choking substance into the air, causing several students to collapse and lose consciousness.
The affected students were rushed to Ring Road State Hospital and the University College Hospital for treatment.
Fortunately, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, led a swift emergency response, and the students have been stabilized and are receiving proper medical care.
Calling for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and ensure they face justice. Dr. Ajetunmobi emphasized the need for sensitization programs to discourage violence and harmful behavior among students.
The Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Dr. Taiwo, equally promised to cooperate fully with the investigation and punish those responsible.
