Grammy-winning Afrobeats star, Burna Boy, has just adopted a new French name – Jean Béna Dieudonné.
This announcement came after his recent feature on the remix of ‘4 Kampé’ with French-Haitian singer, Joé Dwèt Filé, where he showcased his French side on the track by blending his verse with French lyrics and smooth delivery.
According to a post shared on his official X page, Burna Boy wrote, “My name is now Jean Béna Dieudonné.”
Recall that this isn’t the first time Burna Boy has switched up his name. Fans already know him by various monikers, including Big 7, El Major, African Giant, and Odogwu. His constant reinvention of sound and identity has become a hallmark of his career.
Burna Boy’s move to adopt a French name follows a trend of Nigerian artists breaking into French-speaking markets. Artists like Rema, Ayra Starr, and Tems have already started touring France and Belgium.
Whether Jean Béna Dieudonné becomes a permanent stage name or just a seasonal title, one thing is clear – Burna Boy knows how to keep the conversation going.
