Muyiwa Awoniyi, the manager of Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has advised Nigerian youths not to expect much from the government.
This, according to him, is because the government has no plans for the citizens.
Taking to his X page, Awoniyi wrote “Nigeria has no plans for you.”
This has sparked a heated debate about the role of government in citizens’ lives.
On one hand, many agree with Awoniyi, citing the numerous challenges facing Nigeria, including poverty, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure.
Recall that Rema, another Nigerian superstar, had recently expressed frustration with the government’s handling of these issues, though he encouraged youths to contribute to nation-building.
On the other hand, some argue that citizens should not rely solely on the government for solutions but take an active role in contributing to the country’s development.
This perspective emphasizes the importance of personal responsibility and community engagement in addressing societal challenges.
