Veteran Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, better known as RMD, has sparked a conversation in the entertainment industry by rejecting the title of “legend.”
In an interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, the film star described the label as a scam because he believes it implies he’s nearing retirement or past his prime.
RMD said “I think all those legend things are a scam. I have my legends like Uncle Olu Jacobs, Uncle Pete Edochie, those are our ancestors, our legends.
“I was still watching him when he was saying Ribena children are healthy children. So I don’t subscribe to that, I think it is a scam when they call me legend because they are trying to relegate me to that neighbourhood of retired people or should be nearing retirement. So, no, I don’t subscribe to it.”
RMD’s comments have generated mixed reactions from fans and peers. While some have praised his humility, others have argued that his contributions to Nollywood warrant the title.
With a career spanning over three decades, RMD has established himself as one of the front-runners in the Nigerian movie industry.
