Singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has apologised for his comments against his colleague, Burna Boy.
Speed Darlington was recently arrested for allegedly cyberstalking and defaming Burna Boy in a video.
In a statement posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday and signed by his lawyer Stan Alieke, Speed Darlington said he “appreciates his colleague’s artistry and is confident that his colleague equally appreciates his craft”.
The statement said he made the controversial video “purely for laughs and for its entertainment value”.
Alieke said Speed Darlington did not mean to insult Burna Boy’s mother in the video, calling it a “slip of the tongue”.
“He does not condone the use of social media platforms to malign, defame and disrespect individuals and has committed to using his influence to foster peace and set a good example moving forward,” the statement said.
Alieke said his client has privately reached out to Burna Boy and his team to clear the issue.
The lawyer concluded that the statement was not an admission of guilt but an official comment on the matter.
Speaking in an Instagram live session, Speed Darlington said: “Let me just be direct, I have no beef with Burna Boy. I and Burna Boy are not quarrelling, nor are we, enemies. It is the Nigerian police that did me dirty. They are still withholding my phone at the moment, and I do not have access to it.
“Burna Boy felt like I was spoiling something for him. The amount of effort Burna Boy put into this case. I feel like I am even more successful than him.”
