Yemi Alade, Davido, Burna Boy, three others get 2025 Grammy nominations

Date:

Six Nigerian music stars have earned nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, with all nominees competing in the newly introduced Best African Music Performance category. This recognition highlights Nigeria’s growing influence on the global music stage.

Davido, who received his fourth Grammy nomination this year, secured his spot with his feature on Chris Brown’s track “Sensational” featuring Lojay. He joins fellow Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy (“Higher”), Yemi Alade (“Tomorrow”), Asake and Wizkid (“MMS”), and Tems (“Love Me JeJe”) in the same category.

The 2025 Grammy Awards also marked a milestone for Beyoncé, who made history by surpassing Jay-Z with the most Grammy nominations ever. This year, she leads with 11 nominations, including for Record of the Year with “Texas Hold ‘Em.” She is closely followed by artists like Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone, each securing seven nominations.

Despite the celebration for some, notable Nigerian absentees include Ayra Starr and South African star Tyla, both of whom were previously nominated in the 2024 awards but missed out this year.

The 2025 Grammy Awards ceremony is set to take place at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, February 2, 2025, where global music icons will converge to celebrate the industry’s best.
