30-year-old man commits suicide in Niger after wife’s death

A 30-year-old man, identified as Stephen, has reportedly committed suicide in Ikumi Shako Ward, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, just weeks after the death of his second wife.

Stephen’s wife passed away in March 2025, leaving him devastated and struggling emotionally.

Those close to him noticed signs of deep distress, with Stephen often expressing his inability to cope with the loss.

On Thursday morning, Stephen was seen carrying a hunting rifle, though neighbors didn’t initially perceive it as a cause for concern.

However, hours later, his lifeless body was found in a secluded area of the community, a gunshot wound to his head and the rifle beside him.

Despite the tragedy, Stephen’s first wife is still alive, and he leaves behind two children.
