Army kills suspect robbing Lagos-Ondo passengers with fake gun

An armed robber met his death in the hands of soldiers while robbing some Lagos-Ondo bound passengers with fake gun.

BREAKINGNG gathered that the incident happened earlier in the week on Tuesday along the Shagamu-Benin Expressway.

A police source who disclosed the information said the army shot and killed one of the robbers who was using a stick wrapped with black tape and shaped like a gun to rob motorists.

According to the driver of the vehicle, Wasiu Ayinde, who narrated how they were attacked to the police, phone and cash were already stolen from two passengers by the robbers before they met their Waterloo.

“The first victim, Yusuf Opeyemi of Kandec Ore, had ₦3,000 and a Tecno Spark 20 phone taken from him.

“The second victim, Akinnigbosun Tolu of Aiyeni, Ondo Town, had ₦3,000 stolen from him,” the driver was quoted as saying.

The driver further stated that they were traveling from Lagos to Ondo State and were attacked at Imeri Junction around 10pm on the fateful day

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the surveillance team were mobilised when the command received information about the robbery at Imeri Junction along the Shagamu-Benin Expressway.

The PPRO said, “A surveillance team and men on patrol were mobilised to the scene. Upon arrival, a team of soldiers shot and killed one of the armed robbers, who was armed with a wooden stick wrapped in black tape to disguise it as a gun.

“A Nissan bus with registration number TAN 587 XA, driven by Wasiu Ayinde of Gbogi Garage, Ondo State, was attacked, and two passengers were robbed.”

She added further that the corpse of the robber “has been deposited at the Ijebu Ode Mortuary Hospital, and monitoring continues.”
