Christmas tragedy: Hit-and-run driver kills two on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Date:

Tragedy occurred on Christmas Day when a hit-and-run driver killed a motorcyclist and his passenger along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

BREAKINGNG gathered that the incident happened near Straight Gate College, Isara Remo, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around 7am.

Eyewitnesses said the unknown vehicle whose details could not be ascertained as it fled the scene, knocked down the motorcyclist in a head-on collision.

It was however learnt that the motorcycle was also stolen by some hoodlums following the crash.

“Both the vehicle and the Okada were heading to Lagos when the incident happened, both the rider and his passenger did not survive the crash. Nobody could identify the vehicle, the driver sped off after realising he might have killed people. It was a serious tragedy, given the festive period,” an eyewitness said on condition of anonymity.

The police while confirming the incident to our reporter, said the Isara Division of the Ogun State Police Command got the report.

“At the said location, the vehicle collided with the motorcycle. Tragically, both the rider and the passenger were found dead at the scene. Their identities are currently unknown,” the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, said on Wednesday.

She added, “Upon police arrival of traffic policemen, it was discovered that thieves had stolen the motorcycle and personal items belonging to the deceased, including their phones.

“Photographs were taken, and the corpses were moved to FOS Private Morgue in Ipara Remo for preservation and possible autopsy.”
