#EndSARS: Lagos CP orders release of all detained protesters

Date:

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, has ordered the release of all persons detained on Sunday over #EndSARS 4th anniversary at Lekki toll gate.

Spokesman of Lagos Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement.

Some protesters were arrested during the fourth memorial of the October 20, 2020 clash between #EndSARS protesters and security forces at the toll gate.

Hundeyin did not mention how many persons were detained.

“All protesters in our custody have been released.

“CP Olanrewaju Ishola was on ground at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to personally see to that,” he said.

The #EndSARS movement began as a call to action against the unprofessional activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian police.

The protests led to the disbandment of SARS but also resulted in violence, where some police officers were killed, many government property including police stations, public buses and other facilities were torched.
