Exclusive: 8 beer bottles found as drunk driver rams car on Third Mainland bridge

Date:

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Sunday rescued a yet-to-be-identified and suspected drunk driver in an accident that occurred on Third Mainland Bridge.

BREAKINGNG gathered that the driver was driving recklessly in a Toyota Camry along the stretch of the bridge inward Adeniji before he suffered brake failure, and reportedly rammed his car into some railings.

In a video obtained by our correspondent, the driver was seen in an unconscious condition as traffic officers surrounded the vehicle.

The front of the car was also badly damaged and inside the car, an opened trophy bottle was seen in the passenger’s seat.

“He overtook another vehicle. He was driving recklessly,” a voice was heard saying in the video.

When contacted by our reporter, the spokesperson for LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the driver was drunk.

He said, “He was highly drunk and a bottle of beer was found in the passenger’s seat beside him. A thorough investigation went further and found that he had about seven unopened bottles of beer in his boot.

“The President of LASTMA in that area tried to rescue him out of the vehicle. He was drunk. He found it difficult to come out by himself if not for the effort of the LASTMA officials who took him out.”

Casualties have not been confirmed as the traffic agency is expected to provide further details.

The LASTMA image maker however further warned against drinking while driving.
