A security guard working with Proton Security Service in Ogun State, Ajewole Oluwaseun, has died after a gate fell on him.
BREAKINGNG gathered that the incident happened at the company where the deceased was performing his security duties along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity for not being authorised to speak disclosed the incident to our reporter on Saturday.
The source said the employers of the security guard reported the matter at the Shagamu Division of the state command on Thursday following the incident which happened on Wednesday night.
It was learnt that the gate fell after it was struck by a heavy-lifting machine operated by another person on the premises, and subsequently fell on the 35-year-old guard.
“On December 5, 2024 around 2:20pm, Rotimi Temitope who is the Coordinator of Proton Security Service in Ogun State, reported to the charge room that on December 4, 2024 around 9:30pm, he received information regarding an incident involving one of his security personnel, Ajewole Oluwaseun, a 35-year-old male.
“Ajewole was performing his security duties at Inter Swastik Company, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Sagamu, when a Hydra crane machine operated by Omotosho Benjamin accidentally struck the company’s gate, causing it to fall on him,” the source said, adding the suspect risks manslaughter charges.
Confirming the incident to BREAKINGNG, the Ogun State Police Public Relations, Omolola Odutola, said Ajewole was rushed to Idera Hospital in Sagamu for treatment.
“However, he was later pronounced dead by the attending physician. His body has been removed and taken to Idera Mortuary in Sagamu,” the PPRO said.
She added that a team of detectives had visited the scene and the morgue, taking photographs. “Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided.”
