Footballer dies after collapsing on Osun field

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the heartbreaking death of Adeyemi Adewale, a 29-year-old footballer for the Ilesa West Local Government Area team.

Adewale tragically collapsed during the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final match in Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday.

Adewale was playing in the intense final at the Ataoja School of Science when he suddenly slumped to the ground. Despite immediate attempts to revive him, he was rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival by medical staff.

Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, issued a statement confirming the incident and revealing that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of his sudden collapse.

“Today (Thursday), while the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final was taking place at Ataoja School of Science, one Adeyemi Adewale, a 29-year-old player for the Ilesa West Football team, collapsed on the pitch.

He was rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by a doctor,” the statement read.

The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.
