Midnight fire destroys houses, silos

A devastating fire swept through Satigal Community in Kano State’s Bunkure Local Government Area on Tuesday night, destroying houses, cattle, and six silos.

The fire, which was reportedly caused by an unattended cooking fire, engulfed an entire residence housing six households, leaving millions of naira worth of goods, grains, and personal belongings in ashes.

The Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru, has expressed his sympathy to the victims and donated N200,000 to support them.

He also urged the community to exercise caution and ensure that cooking fires are extinguished immediately after use.

The monarch has promised to report the incident to the Kano State Emergency Relief Management Agency for immediate assistance.

Interestingly, the Kano State Fire Service claimed they hadn’t received a report on the incident, despite the Emir’s confirmation, highlighting the need for better communication and reporting channels in emergency situations.

It’s worth noting that fire incidents have been a recurring issue in Kano State, with, at least, six people killed and six others rescued in a similar incident in January 2025.
