Police hunt assailants as two wanted cultists die in Ogun clash

Date:

The Ogun State Police Command said it had activated efforts to apprehend culprits responsible for the killing of two suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in the state.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed this to our reporter on Wednesday.

It was gathered that tension gripped Oju Irin Village in the Obada Oko area of Ogun State on Monday following a violent clash believed to be a cult-related attack that left the two men dead.

The clash, which occurred around 3:15 p.m., resulted in the deaths of two alleged members of the cult group, identified by their aliases as “Chameleon” and “Judge.”

“Chameleon,” said to be the leader of the group, was brutally macheted, while “Judge” was fatally shot, with assailants unknown yet.

Sources revealed that the victims, who had been on the police’s wanted list for cult-related activities, were hiding in the area when they were attacked in what is suspected to be a reprisal strike by a rival cult group.

“The deceased are among the command’s notorious wanted persons,” the police spokesperson confirmed.

Odutola said when officers visited the scene of the attack, “Two empty cartridges were recovered at the scene. Photographs of the corpses were taken, and the bodies have been deposited at the Ijaiye General Hospital morgue.”

She added, “Aggressive patrols and intelligence gathering are underway to apprehend the culprits.”
