Police officer accidentally shoots woman dead in Ekiti

A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti when a police officer from the Ekiti State Police Command accidentally discharged his rifle, fatally shooting a woman dead.

The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly standing in front of a salon opposite the Okela police station when the gunshot struck her. 

She had been visiting her husband, who was detained at the station at the time.

Eyewitnesses said the officer’s rifle was accidentally fired, with the bullet hitting the woman. 

Despite being rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, she was pronounced dead.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, AIG Akinwale Adeniran, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the officer involved has been disarmed and placed in detention for questioning, as required by police protocol.
