At least three soldiers were killed and three others, including a Brigade Commander, were injured when terrorists attacked a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wajiroko, Borno State, on March 24, 2025.
According to a military source, the Brigade Commander was injured when his vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while traveling to support the base under attack.
The assault, which occurred around 10:05 PM, was carried out by Boko Haram/ISWAP militants targeting the FOB. In response, the Brigade called for air support and dispatched reinforcements.
However, the reinforcements encountered another IED along their route, leading to the deployment of a second team, led by the Commander of the 25th Brigade.
Tragically, the second team was still en route when the Brigade Commander’s Hilux vehicle triggered an IED near Damboa, resulting in a deadly explosion.
The blast claimed the lives of three soldiers, while three others, including the Brigade Commander, were wounded.

While full details of the assault remain unclear, it was reported that the pilot dispatched for air support observed heavy gunfire around the FOB and saw soldiers fleeing towards Sabon Gari, suggesting the base may have been overrun by the terrorists.
The security situation in the area remains unstable, with military authorities urging troops to stay alert. Efforts to reach Major General Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, for confirmation have not been successful.
This attack follows a similar incident on January 4, 2025, when terrorists struck a military base in Damboa, Borno, killing six soldiers.
Following that assault, President Bola Tinubu ordered an investigation to prevent future attacks. However, less than three months later, the region has witnessed another deadly assault, underscoring the persistent security challenges in the area.
