The Plateau Ministry of Education has shut down two private schools in Jos, First Academy and Niret Private School, for failing to meet the minimum standards.
According to the Director of Quality Assurance, Mr. Sabastine John, the schools were closed during an ongoing verification process aimed at ensuring quality education in the state.
The ministry observed that the facilities in these schools were in a deplorable state, and their management had not adhered to the required standards.
This led to a lack of conducive environment for quality teaching and learning.
Notably, First Academy was previously closed two years ago due to substandard facilities but was reopened after the management pleaded with the state government. However, the issues persisted, prompting the recent closure.
The ministry has called on the management of the schools to apply for reopening once the raised issues are addressed.
This move is part of the government’s efforts to ensure that all schools in the state operate according to stipulated guidelines.
