Grammy award Best Rapper, Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmo, better known as Doechii, has been named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year.
This recognition comes after a monumental year for the Tampa-based rapper, who won her first Grammy for Best Rap Album with ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ in January, making history by becoming the third woman to win this category.
Doechii’s rise to fame has been swift, with viral hits like ‘No Scrubs’ and ‘Denial is a River’ which catapulted her to stardom. The latter peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, showcasing her growing influence on the music scene.
As the 2025 Woman of the Year, Doechii joins an illustrious group of past recipients, including SZA, Billie Eilish, Madonna, and Taylor Swift.
Billboard’s editor-in-chief, Hannah Karp, praised Doechii’s unique sound, style, and spirit, as well as her “ultra-candid lyrics”.
The award will be presented at Billboard’s 2025 Women in Music event, which will also feature performances by Ángela Aguilar, aespa, and GloRilla, among others.
Other awardees include Jennie (Songwriter of the Year), Erykah Badu (Breakthrough Award), and Meghan Trainor (Hitmaker Award).
