Music heavyweights Davido, Rema, Tems, others win at 17th Headies awards

The 17th edition of the Headies Awards transformed Lagos’ Landmark Event Centre into a celebration of African musical excellence Sunday night.

The star-studded ceremony recognized the continent’s exceptional talents, with artists like Tems, Rema, Flavour, and Davido earning top accolades.

Tems’ emotionally charged “Burning” earned her the prestigious Best Recording of the Year award, solidifying her reputation as one of Africa’s most captivating vocalists.

Her live performance during the ceremony further showcased her remarkable artistry.

Meanwhile, Rema’s musical journey reached another milestone as his project HEIS received the Afrobeats Album of the Year distinction.

His hit single “OZEBA” also contributed to London’s Producer of the Year win, highlighting the young artist’s continued impact on the global Afrobeats movement.

Industry veteran Flavour added another achievement to his impressive career when “Big Baller” was declared Afrobeats Single of the Year.

Social media platforms buzzed with praise for his magnetic stage presence throughout the evening.

The digital realm belonged to Davido, who took home the Best Digital Artiste of the Year trophy, recognizing his substantial online footprint and streaming success.

His collaboration “Ogechi Remix” with Hyce, Boypee, and Brown Joel also garnered multiple nominations.

Social media channels lit up with #TheHeadies and #Headies2025 trending throughout the ceremony, which attracted a diverse audience including entertainment personalities, government officials, and cultural influencers.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was among the distinguished attendees, joining numerous actors, musicians, and public figures.

Beyond musical achievements, the ceremony recognized humanitarian efforts and special contributions to the industry, with honors bestowed upon Sanwo-Olu, Alex Okosi, and Amaju Pinnick.

The highly anticipated Next Rated category went to Odumodublvck, while Tanzania’s Juma Jux claimed the Best East African Artiste award, reflecting the ceremony’s pan-African scope.

This latest edition of the Headies Awards reaffirmed its significance as the premier showcase for outstanding musical talent across Africa.
