The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 19 people lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident that occurred on Sunday along the Lokoja-Obajana Road in Kogi State.
Speaking to journalists in Lokoja on Monday, the state Sector Commander, Kumar Tsukwam, said the accident took place around 4 p.m. in the Gadabiu community, within Lokoja Local Government Area.
According to Tsukwam, the crash involved a high-speed Toyota Hummer bus en route to Abuja from the southern part of the country, and an articulated truck.

The collision happened when the bus, while attempting to overtake another truck, crashed head-on into an oncoming articulated vehicle.
“It was a terrible scene. The crash was caused by speeding and wrongful overtaking. Out of 27 occupants, only eight survived,” Tsukwam said.
He added that the deceased included five children, all of whom were burned beyond recognition when the vehicles caught fire. The injured victims, who suffered cuts, fractures, dislocations, and burns, were immediately taken to Fisayo Hospital in Obajana for treatment.
The commander urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, stressing that highways are not meant for reckless driving. He appealed to drivers to avoid speeding and dangerous overtaking to prevent such devastating incidents.
“By driving responsibly, we can all contribute to reducing road crashes and saving lives,” Tsukwam said.
