Access Bank reacts to allegations of secret recordings of female staffs by ex-employee

Date:

Access Bank has addressed claims spreading on social media that a former contact centre employee covertly recorded coworkers without their permission.

In a statement on Monday, the bank confirmed it has referred the case to the relevant authorities and is providing full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

“Our attention has been drawn to reports circulating on social media regarding an alleged offence involving a former Contact Centre Agent.

“The matter has been handed over to the appropriate authorities, who are conducting an investigation. We are fully cooperating with them in this process,” the statement partly read.

An online newspaper, Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), earlier reported that a former Access Bank contact centre agent, Stephen Ejezie, allegedly recorded over 400 videos of female colleagues without their consent, capturing them while they were changing clothes or using the restroom.

According to FIJ, Ejezie reportedly planted hidden cameras in restrooms and other private areas to secretly film the women. Despite the volume of evidence gathered, the report stated that Ejezie had not been charged in court at the time of publication.

In its response, Access Bank reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on harassment and breaches of privacy, adding that it is actively supporting the affected employees.

“At Access Bank, we uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and any form of privacy violation. We are also actively engaging with the affected employees to provide all necessary support. The safety, dignity, and well-being of our employees and customers remain our highest priority.

“We appreciate the concern and support of the public and our stakeholders. For accurate information, we encourage everyone to rely only on updates communicated through our official channels,” the bank said.
