The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has attributed its poor performance in Saturday’s by-elections to what it claims was “widespread violence, vote buying, and irregularities” allegedly perpetrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party asserted that the polls were severely compromised, undermining their credibility.
The ADC alleged that in multiple states, armed thugs, numbering around 300 in one instance, were arrested on election day.

The party also reported the cancellation of several polling units due to ballot box snatching and voter intimidation.
The ADC pointed to alleged vote buying as a major issue, citing the arrest of a suspect with ₦25.9 million in Kaduna and other cases where election officials were reportedly involved in the inducement of voters.
The party also raised concerns about the failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in some states and questioned the competence and sincerity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in ensuring a free and fair process.
“These by-elections are a dress rehearsal for 2027. If violence, vote buying, intimidation, and collusion with security forces become the new normal, Nigerians and the international community must brace themselves,” the statement read.
