Arewa youths explains petition to DSS, IGP against Amaechi, Bafarawa

Date:

The Reformed Arewa Youth Council of Nigeria (RAYCN) has urgently appealed to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), raising serious concerns about the upcoming mass protests set to unfold across northern states.

The group has called for a comprehensive assessment of the potential risks these protests may pose, particularly in terms of national security.

The protests are scheduled to start in the village of former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa and are anticipated to swiftly expand to other northern regions such as Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Katsina, according to a formal petition signed by RAYCN’s National President, Bilal Abdulahi.

Further fueling concerns, the group is requesting that security agencies look into the alleged involvement of high-profile figures such as Bafarawa and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, in organizing or supporting the protests.

While acknowledging the country’s ongoing economic challenges, RAYCN warned that if these protests are not carefully managed, they could escalate into widespread unrest, further destabilizing the nation.

The group highlighted the need for a balance between allowing lawful demonstrations and preventing any actions that could lead to security threats.

In its petition, RAYCN also underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to address economic issues, including initiatives to foster industrial growth, boost food security, stabilize energy resources, and attract foreign investment.

The group strongly advocated for peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement, urging all stakeholders, including the security agencies and citizens, to unite in the pursuit of peace and national stability.

RAYCN’s plea is a call to action, urging prompt intervention from authorities to prevent any potential disruption to the nation’s peace and security, while ensuring that the rights to protest and express grievances are upheld in a responsible manner.

Abdulahi stated, “Despite Nigeria’s economic challenges, which are rooted in past misgovernance, President Tinubu has demonstrated a commitment to resolving these issues.

“Treasonous activities must not be tolerated in any democratic society. Every nation has laws that safeguard its sovereignty, and Nigeria must not be an exception.

“Consequently, we urge the security agencies to investigate the situation and those involved. If left unchecked, this could have disastrous consequences for the nation’s peace and harmony.

“RAYCN reaffirms its commitment to the unity, progress, and security of Nigeria, urging all well-meaning Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s administration and contribute to maintaining national stability.”
