Muhammed Babangida, son of Nigeria’s former military leader, Ibrahim Babangida, has officially confirmed his acceptance of the role as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), putting to rest speculations that he turned down the appointment.
President Bola Tinubu named Babangida as the new BOA chairman on July 18 as part of a series of high-level appointments aimed at repositioning key federal institutions.

In a statement released Monday by Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Babangida expressed gratitude to the president for entrusting him with the position.
He refuted circulating reports that claimed he rejected the role, labeling such reports as malicious fabrications intended to mislead Nigerians and undermine the credibility of the administration.
“We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government, and extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him,” the statement reads.
The statement warned that the sources of the misinformation would not go unpunished.
“We also want to assure the public that those spreading these falsehoods will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and fostering unity within our nation,” it added.
It ended with a call for vigilance, urging citizens to confirm news from credible platforms to avoid the spread of fake information.
According to Olusegun, Babangida’s appointment is one of several deliberate steps by President Tinubu to reinforce leadership capacity within critical federal agencies.
