Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called for unified action among the country’s security agencies in tackling the ongoing wave of insecurity.
His remarks follow the recent attacks in the Yelewata and Daudu communities of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State.
Kalu condemned the killings, describing them as “barbaric, disturbing, and unacceptable.” He urged law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those behind the attacks.

While expressing sympathy to the victims’ families and the Benue State Government, Kalu reaffirmed the National Assembly’s readiness to support efforts toward peace and stability through legislative intervention.
He pointed out that, as part of this support, the House Committee on Constitution Review convened a special dialogue on Monday focusing on Nigeria’s security structure. During the session, security experts and stakeholders examined critical constitutional gaps that hinder effective operations of the nation’s security agencies.
Kalu expressed hope that the constitutional reform process—especially regarding security and policing—will lead to enhanced cooperation among security agencies, improved intelligence sharing, fortified border controls, and broader regional peace strategies.
“The recent incident in Yelewata, Benue State, is not only disturbing but also deeply disheartening. The barbaric killing of members of the community is utterly unacceptable. I strongly condemn this wicked act carried out by unidentified individuals”, Kalu said in a Statement on Tuesday.
“I join Mr. President in his call for security agencies to collaborate and act decisively to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators of these heinous acts. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Yelewata Community and the Government of Benue State. As efforts continue to address the root causes and prevent future occurrences, we pray for the peaceful repose of the departed and for strength and comfort for the bereaved families. May their souls rest in peace”, he added.
Kalu emphasized the urgency of translating recommendations into concrete actions to restore peace and ensure such tragedies do not reoccur.
