Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, appeared before the Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Tuesday morning for his trial in a criminal defamation case brought against him by legal heavyweight Chief Afe Babalola SAN.
Farotimi, who had been remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre following his arraignment last week, was escorted to court by prison officials.

He arrived at the courthouse at 9:55 AM, dressed in a black T-shirt and blue jeans.
The defamation charges stem from allegations made in Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System, where he accused Babalola of influencing Supreme Court judges.
Babalola found certain parts of the 104-page book defamatory and responded by taking legal action against the activist.
