The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) says 58 passengers on a British Airways Abuja–London flight were denied boarding on Friday due to a faulty aircraft door.
In a statement on X, NCAA’s Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, explained that safety protocols required keeping seats near the defective door empty, which led to the boarding restrictions.
“Hotel accommodation has been provided for affected passengers, with 28 choosing to return home and 30 accepting the lodging offer. They will be airlifted tomorrow morning, and eligible passengers can file for compensation,” Achimugu said.

He urged travellers facing similar disruptions to immediately contact NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the terminal to ensure their rights are upheld.
While the move was in line with global safety standards, some travellers criticised the condition of aircraft operated by foreign airlines in Nigeria, calling for stricter oversight despite the high ticket prices.
